And the tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread." But he answered, "It is written, "'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" Mat 4:3-4 ESV
Words have power, indeed. They can build people up or tear them down. Words define our reality and in that sense “create” the world we live in. Words are especially powerful when they coincide with GOD’S WORD, because HIS Word is truly living, powerful and sharp – more so than ours can ever be. When the Evil One confronted Jesus in the desert, Jesus defeated his temptations every time by refering him to God’s Word. God’s Word is the final authority – even for the enemy! We can also learn to speak God’s Word when the going gets tough. We don’t mean that you quote Bible verses constantly or inapropriately. No, we mean that you KNOW the Bible’s truths and then align your speech to that. SAY that God is present, trustworthy, that there is hope, CONFESS that things will turn around, FORGIVE, PRAISE, GIVE THANKS! Also, if you experience difficulty, doubt, temptation or challenge you can respond with God’s Word directly: prayed, spoken, written, sung, repeated! That is the way we fight our battles.
Lord, help me to know your Word and to live a life that conforms to it. Amen.
