I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. Joh 17:15 ESV
The Bible makes it clear that there is a spiritual enemy, a tempter, a seducer. The “evil one”. Already in Paradise we find him there, in the form of the snake. In the Old Testament we get to know him as the Satan (“adversary”) and in the New Testament as the Devil (“slanderer”, “false accuser”). The Bible also refers to him as Beelzebub, the ruler of this world, snake, dragon, roaring lion or with names such as Abaddon or Belial. The name Lucifer (“light bearer”) in Isa 14:12 has been applied to him metaphorically. The point is this: modern man deny it, but according to the Bible there is not just evil in the world, but a personal “evil one”. When Jesus came onto the scene, he immediately came in confrontation with him – the devil. Jesus wants us to know about the enemy. We will engage him, that we must know, but we can also overcome him in Jesus’ Name, without exception. That we must also know!
Our Father, who are in heaven, deliver us from the evil one. Amen.
Be aware of the enemy!
