…like living stones (you) are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 1 Pet 2:5 ESV
The cross of Jesus annulled any further need for animal sacrifices. That’s why the temple was destroyed within one generation of the cross. The New Testament states that WE, the church, have become God’s new temple. WE, as believers, make up the new priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God. Remember, when we speak of the “church” in this way we do not refer to buildings. A beautiful building, consecrated to God, has a wonderful appeal and draws us into worship, but God does not live in buildings made by hands. God lives in the hearts of his people. “Church” refers to the community of believers. There we’ll find God! Yes, we’re very aware of the failings and brokenness of the church, yet God inhabits his people by his Spirit. Go to his people, then, and when you’ve found love and peace, where there is faith and hope, there you have found God. Be a part of SUCH a community!
Heavenly father, thank you for the community of believers. They’re not perfect, but neither am I! Amen.
Where is God? God is in his church!
