In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Mat 5:16 ESV
As Jesus-followers we have to let our light – or HIS light – shine. We are witnesses of Christ firstly by living to his glory and secondly by talking about him wisely and appropriately. There’s still something more we can do in this regard and that is to invite others into our communities. Yes, invite people to church or to small group – especially for special events! It’s true that churches must make an effort to be welcoming and friendly to visitors (we often think we are, but we’re not – we should ask the visitors), but it’s just as true that our church will never be perfect. It’s impossible and also unnecessary, because the key is not in the perfect church, but in the needy heart. Remember, it’s the Holy Spirit that does the work, we only facilitate to an extent. What people are hungry for is loving relationships, sincere friends and a faith that’s real, that “works”. You HAVE that heartfelt hospitality and sincere people at your church - invite others in!
Lord, our church is not perfect, but our people love you and love others. Give us the boldness to invite people to church! Amen.
