Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." Gen 1:26 ESV
Man’s dominion on earth has become very damaging to nature. It wasn’t realized so much previously, but today we know that it’s true. Still, many people find it surprising that we make this topic – the earth, nature, the climate – a spiritual one. Can these things really be included in our discipleship? Yes, most definitely! It’s certainly a spiritual matter. Remember, God gave us a command – to work and to care for he earth – and we did not obey. We destroyed and we plundered, because of our sinfulness. How can this not be spiritual? Remember that we live different lives than those in the world, with different values –kingdom values! We do not break down or destroy, we build up and restore. We care and we love. That’s the way God is and that’s the way we are – also in relation to the earth.
Heavenly Father, help me to love and care for your creation the way you do! Amen.
Pray about your relationship with the earth!
