Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. Rev 21:1 ESV
Christians sometimes think that the earth is less important. Won’t it be destroyed anyway and we as believers go to heaven for ever? Well, yes and no. We do talk of “going to heaven” when we die, but that’s only temporary. The Bible’s ultimate vision of eternity is on earth, not in heaven! Not the sinful old earth, of course, but the “new heaven and new earth”. Just as the Lord makes us new, he will also make the earth new and then join us here, living with us on our beautiful earth for ever and ever. That is God’s plan for earth. Earth remains our home! Just remember, we don’t know when these things will happen – it could be soon or only much later. Until then we need to take care of our world, just as he commanded us to do, for the sake of our children and grandchildren. It will honour God if we, when he comes, be found faithful – in every respect!
Heavenly Father, than you for the wonderful home that you’ve given us. Help us to remain faithful, obedient, respectful and caring until you come back. Amen.
