The bodies we now have are weak and can die. But they will be changed into bodies that are eternal. Then the Scriptures will come true, "Death has lost the battle! 1 Cor 15:54 CEV
Even if we distinguish the different aspects of our being (body, soul and spirit), we cannot divide ourselves too deeply in this way. We always remain one person! What is the spirit without the soul or the soul without the body? Scripture also doesn’t go too deeply into these distinctions. The Hebrew perspective on man (vs. the Greek) especially was that the parts simply describe the whole, that personhood is to always act as one integrated being. That is also the way we should see it: soul and spirit are for the most part merely synonyms, heart and body present only one behaviour, putting things right with God puts everything right – the whole life. Remember also Scripture’s perspective on eternity: not that our “souls” alone will float in heavenly realms with God, but that our whole renewed self – body, soul and spirit – will live and work on the renewed earth, together with God, forever.
Heavenly Father, thank you for making me one, body, soul and spirit, with the full capacity to serve and please you. Amen.
