The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. 2 Cor. 13:14 ESV
When we think of the Trinity, we should not overthink the topic. It is really beyond our understanding! Still, we know that there is only one God, not three gods. We know that God always works as one, even though mention might be made of the Father, Son or Holy Spirit. In this verse, for example, Paul emphasizes the love of the Father, the grace of Christ and the fellowship of the Spirit, but he refers to one God.
What is this fellowship (koinonia) of the Spirit, and of God, that Paul is referring to? Well, firstly, it’s the Spirit-communion that exists in the Trinity. The Trinity knows only intimate and perfect union. Secondly, it’s the communion between God and man. The Holy Spirit always draws us into a closer relationship with God. Creating relationship is His whole purpose! Thirdly, it's about the fellowship the Spirit works between our fellow man. He does so by producing in us love, patience, kindness, etc. Let’s put it this way: for the Holy Spirit it’s all about communion, all about relationship, all about love.
Heavenly Father, thank you for the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. Thank you for the communion He creates between You and me, and among us as believers. Give us a true sense of community, Lord; make us a loving fellowship. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
