2670 Leadership and the Spirit

And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him. So the people of Israel obeyed him and did as the LORD had commanded Moses. Deut. 34:9 ESV

Another role of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament was to give wisdom and direction to leaders. We read, for example, how Moses, his 70 deputies, Joshua, the judges, and kings like David were filled with the Spirit in order to rule wisely. That is what made them good, godly leaders.

What is leadership? Leadership is the ability to take people to a specified purpose. It’s to exert influence aimed at a desired outcome. Remember, everyone has influence somewhere, which puts all of us in some leadership position. You are also a leader where you are. God is calling you, however, to become a better leader, a great leader! Approach others, therefore, with much more intention. Realize that your words and deeds have considerable influence. Lead them, much more deliberately than before, to the place that God has in mind for them. Yes, be a great leader, a godly leader! The Holy Spirit will empower you for the purpose.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Help me to discern His guidance, to incorporate His wisdom, to understand His purposes. I want to be a good leader, to Your glory! In Jesus’ Name, amen.
