Now Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, and he led his flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. Ex. 3:1-2a ESV
After Moses fled from Egypt, he spent forty years in the Arabic desert tending sheep for his father-in-law. He must have often wondered whether that was God's purpose for his life. One day, he saw a fire burning in a thornbush but not consuming the bush. He went to investigate, upon which he heard a voice, realized it was God, and received a calling that would radically change his life.
Do you know something? We find what we look for. If we are looking for God, we will find God. He is still burning in so many bushes around us, but we often cannot see it. His voice is still coming to us, but we do not hear it. Yes, nature is filled with His presence; people around you are testifying of Him; His Word declares His purposes so clearly; your circumstances are calling out to you; the road you walked is filled with meaning and purpose. Can you discern what it is? Do you hear God’s voice? Do you see the bush burning?
Omnipresent God, our lives are so hurried and superficial that we have difficulty finding You. Lead us into a place of silence and of seeking. Open our inner eyes so that we can see Your signs, our inner ears to hear Your voice. Show us the way that we must go, and the future You have in mind for us. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
MEDITATE TODAY: Lord, I want to see You today.
